What is Chai?
Masala chai, or spiced tea, is a blend of tea and spices that has been enjoyed in South Asia for centuries. Recipes vary from region to region, but chai is generally made from black tea and spices infused in water, with milk and sweetener added. Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove and pepper are common flavorings. Best brewed fresh, chaiwallahs - tea vendors - pour steaming chai into small ceramic cups at roadside stands throughout India. Millions of people enjoy chai every day. After water, it’s the second most-consumed beverage in the world.
